Kick-off post!
Here are some jumping off points for brainstorming, based on what I think so far about Lady Han:
- Conventions of Noh drama are useful.
- I have no problem with our show not resembling "Lady Han." No one knows the play anyway!
- Let's not wear masks.
- Americana everything... some possibilities...
Movement: Line Dancing
Character: Drag — over-the-top "performed" genders (eg. RuPaul, Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, The Rock)
Atmosphere: Pacific North West... something woodsy... Twin Peaks
Sound/Time: particular, slow, live (perhaps this will be the most "Japanese" element??)
Song: Sacred Harp
- Lastly, I'm open to adding secondary "texts" at this point... perhaps something about Christmas, since our play takes place in the Autumn and has an "All I want for Christmas is You" undertone.

Christmas Line Dancing
Here are two youtube videos Katie came across that might inspire the creation of choreographed movement/dance in the show. Both videos should be played simultaneously, with the clip of the line dancing muted.
"Holly Jolly Christmas Line Dance" (mute): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HesPfWngnfQ
Mariah Carey's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOGrJ0vUTnQ
Let us know what you think!

Welcome!
This blog will serve as a place where ideas/inspirations pertaining to our production can be shared with members of the cast and crew. Please feel free to post links to any articles, images, audio clips, youtube videos, etc. that you think could enhance or inform the show's creative process. Even if you think something might not directly inform the development of the show, share it regardless! Also, feel free to post feedback and responses to links that are shared. This can allow us have a lot of interesting discussions before we even return to school. I hope your summer vacations have been enjoyable thus far and I look forward to hearing from you all soon :)
